About the Author
Abu Zakariya Muhi-ad-Deen Yahya ibn Sharaf an-Nawawi was born in Syria in 1243 CE. In Damascus, he acquired knowledge and then taught others. His hard work and brilliance made him one of the most respected scholars in Islamic history.
Imam an-Nawawi had hundreds of students and wrote a number of famous volumes which are still widely read and studied today. They include Riyâdh as-Sâliheen (The Gardens of the Righteous); Sharh Saheeh Muslim, an explanation of the hadiths quoted by Imam Muslim; and Forty Hadiths, a collection of sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him) covering the fundamentals of what Muslims should know to practice their faith.
